We also have a circular staircase but the rail just winds around the wall, perhaps you need to get a new rail?
Jacqui.

As a temporary measure you could buy the non-slip shower/bath mats that can be cut, or the non-slip matting that goes under rugs, colours can be neutral; these can be taken up and cleaned in the washer, and the stairs can be cleaned.

Other option is to have wooden treads fitted.

Serious time now [:o]

Covering marble would be a "crying shame" as my gran would say (if she wasn't dead) - in the heady days of industrial coatings, a matt or low level texturing coating/treatment could be applied, thus allowing the beauty of the floor to gleam though.

For 'domestic use' try Rocol [ www.rocol.com ] and look at site safety systems.

Just remember, when checking in at the airport, when they point at the leaflet and ask "are you carrying any of these?", that is your cue to say "no".

We have marble stairs and as yet have had no problems going up and down. We wear rubber soled sandals or slippers and they do not slip on the marble.

In my apartment I have two sets of marble stares and I wear nothing but bare feet. I haven't slipped or fallen yet even when fairly well "Efes'd".

Be fair Ken, you normally have Billy to help you negotiate aforementioned stairs  ;)
