As you may know, I spent some time last week in a Neurological Ward in Aberdeen Hospital.
On the second night I was disturbed by a young woman screaming all through the night. When she repeatedly shouted "AGHH AGHH", "NO, NO" and "PLEASE, PLEASE" I naturally felt a little uneasy.
But when her shouts of "HELMAND, HELMAND" pierced the still night, a cold shiver went straight through me.
Before last week, I had thought that I was reasonably aware of the sacrifice our troops were making in Afghanistan. I now realise that I didn't have the first idea of what that sacrifice really is.
I truly hope the young lady makes a speedy and full recovery from her injuries and I would dearly like someone to tell me why she has had to suffer so much.
