I find it ever so slightly irritating to read that people who have booked to holiday in Calis may not have if they had read this forum first. The alternative is of course that there wasn't a forum and they went there blissfully unaware of the need to be vigilant.

Nobody is suggesting that this is common, and more importantly, nobody is suggesting you need take any more care of yourself than you would in your home town. My topic of about a year ago comes to mind. Perfectly sensible people leave the UK and total airheads arrive in Calis. The sort who walk up the middle of a main street that I could drive right up behind and they still had no idea.

Just don't forget your common sense and don't think because it's sunny that cars don't hurt and people all wave and wish you well  :)

People reading this should keep in mind that the population of Calis is that of a fairly small village, in fact a better comparison would be to take just a small area of any town or city in the UK that attracts large numbers of holiday makers, for instance the central area of Blackpool, Brighton, Torquay etc. Now imagine that in any one of these areas you had an active forum of 6,000+ members watching and reporting on every move that went on in that community. I guarantee that the picture you would build up of any of these places would be that of a recent day Tehran rather than Torquay. Our community in Calis is really under a microscope and a microscope can make even the most beautiful thing look ugly or scary.

Calis is changing, it's a very different place from the deserted backwater we stumbled across on a grey day in November 8 years ago, but it's still a great place.

I got a bit worried after reading the forum, but it's like any holiday town that gets busy with tourists, there's going to be a few chancers. I personally can't wait for the 17th July, getting off the plane and feeling the turkish sun on my face. I live just outside Blackpool and know what can happen, but will just take care and keep an eye on my missus and kids. But if I do come across one of these pervs they'll be singing soprano for a week.
