Jet2 Summer Flights
« on: December 22, 2010, 16:45:01 PM »
Have just logged onto Jet2 to find there summer sale has started. Flights from Leeds/Bradford our local airport in the summer holidays for 4 weeks came up at £240 not bad for that time of year.  So how on earth by the time you get to checkout does the price shoot up to £350 each? Looks like it could be flights through Aegean for us they seemed slightly cheaper.  Is it best to book these flights direct through Aegean or can you get them cheaper through any particular agency?  Thanks

One problem with booking through an agent is that it is another company in the loop to go belly up. On the positive side if you only pay a deposit and they go belly up you have not lost all your money. You pays your money & takes your choice!

We have just booked with Jet2 for Glasgow to Dalaman in May.  It really sticks in the craw all extra charges added such as fuel supplement (isn't that what the air fare is for) , online check in fee of £16 (airport check in was even dearer) booking charge and credit card charge of £32 (who doesn't book with a credit card these days when airlines are going bust with worrying regularity).

Totally taking the pee and why this is allowed I just do not understand when some are impossible to avoid.  The headline price is a total con.   They make Thomas Cook look like saints !

Yup , check-in is an extra added along with taxes etc so isn't included in the initial price.     You have no option but to check-in but you have a choice to do it the "cheap" way and you are only charged £16 for 2 people 2 do an online check-in and I think £32 if you don't want the online check-in.

OK we all have the option to buy or not when we get to the final price but it smacks of dishonesty to me and trying to lure people in with an unrealistic advertised price then bang on non-optional extras.

We still went with them as the luggage options are flexible and we have a lot to take this time and Thomas Cook seats are so cramped even a  4 hour flight is torture for tall people and TC's extra legroom seats are very expensive.   Time will tell if Jet2 are any better.  TC would have been cheaper for us if extra luggage hadn't been a consideration.

We are still talking more than  £250  return per person from Glasgow to Dalaman in May so it isn't exactly "budget" prices

Jet 2, look cheap when you first start out but by the time you have added everything on that you need they work out the same price as a charter flight. The only advamtage of booking with them is you can choose your seats and extra leg room which you do need as the chairs are very close together. If you havent been with them before their planes are older than most and do not have the inflight entertainment via drop down screens there version is hand held. Alos if you dont include in flight meals when you book the only option for food and drink is snacks which is expensive for what you get.

Some of my family recently flew with Jet2 to Lanzarote. On the day they were due to come home, strong cross winds closed Arrecife airport - 88 flights on the board all cancelled. Whilst the likes of Thomas Cook & Sleasy Jet barely fed & watered their passengers in the airport, after only 4 hours Jet2 had taken their folk to a 4* all inc hotel for the night, excellent service in the circumstances & perhaps when the worst happens, worth the extra.
