Dundee Airport Service - Thanks a Bunch

Possibly should be in all things that are "nothing to do with Turkey" as this is, but anyway...

My mother in law visited for the weekend and we dropped her off at Dundee airport (one of the smallest I have ever seen in the UK) for her flybe flight back to Belfast. She has to have wheelchair assistance both sides as she is 88, very frail, and can't carry her suitcase more than about a metre. We obviously aren't allowed to take her as far as the gate but they did tell us not to worry and they would look after her.

They certainly did, as soon as we left she was taken to a room and sat down while her suitcase was emptied item by item in front of her, the lining searched and then told everything was fine.

Actually it was nothing to do with my swarthy mafia good looks as I stayed in the car. It is a little outrageous but of course there is nothing to complain about as they are well within their rights to do it.

My Mother in Law who also was in her eighties and needed wheelchair assistance was not treated well on her flight to Belfast from Edinburgh.  We left her off with a flight attendant and she was taken away.  The flight was delayed and she was left for hours sitting in her wheelchair.  No one asked her if she was O.K. did she need a drink and most of all did she need to visit the loo.   She was also "frisked" when she went through with her hand luggage.
I was so mad when I found out about it I wrote to the Airline and my Mum in law got an apology and a big bunch of flowers.
Scunner, you should write and complain.  Airlines should not get away with treating elderly people badly.
:(

Exactly - they are allowed to do it, there is no airline to complain to, what would I be complaining about? They would just say they were doing their job, and that age doesn't come in to it. My feeling is that they need to do so many per 1000 passengers or something and like to target the easy ones.

I would complain to Highlands & Island's Airports who run Dundee Airport (do it on-line).  I would also put a c.c. to the Sunday Post (A Dundee Newspaper)  These big Companies hate bad publicity.  I am willing to bet that the Post would publish your letter and even though there would be no action taken by the Airport Authority it would give you a sense of satisfaction to have the way you Mum in Law was treated being put in the public domain.
