When ducks are not happy or ill, they tend to stand in one position sometimes for a long time with their heads tucked into their backs, they stop grooming their feathers and sometimes the area around their bills becomes pale.

Was there any purpose in quoting two posts from an earlier page and adding nothing to them?

Apologies Scunner.
I was trying out the "reply with quote" icon, which I have not used before.

I think the fact that they were resting on the beach means they were happy with it.

A question-Our local deli has a chicken run into which they have introduced four rescue ducks. They have a small paddling pool about two feet in diameter to wet their bums. Do you think this is big enough.
Hugh

for the late reply I totally missed your post.
Ducks don't really need to have enough water to swim, although it's nice if they do.  The need enough water to put their heads into as they need to wet their eyes to stop infections.  Most ducks spend their days waddling around with their bills in the grasses.  When I kept my ducks the were always walking around the fields and only in the pond occasionally.
They are amazingly dirty birds and make a lot of mess if kept in a restricted space.

Thanks Jacqui
