Having bought a wireless 3G router on eBay which I will collect when we next go back to the UK - I came across Connectify
It's free to download and once you have it on your laptop / desktop / notebook that you have your dongle plugged in to - that device becomes THE hotspot and allows another 4 or it may be 5 devices to share the network.
I downloaded it and was using it with Gill using our iPod touch within 5 minutes - a very useful bit of software.
