Where has the respect gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: February 16, 2013, 21:01:53 PM »
I attended the funeral today of someone who was known by many in the calis area and firstly i would like to say what a lovely service it was, it was delivered in both english and turkish and i came away knowing alittle bit more about that person than i knew before and i hope that the many people who attended felt the same however.......... i was angered and upset by the 2 women and a man(all in good health and abel bodied) who seemed to think it was ok to sit on the grave of a lady and also use the grave opposite as a handy shelf to put there handbags on, they seemed to have no respect that it was someone's relative that they saw fit to use as a handy chair and handbag caddy. I just wonder if i am the only one who feels the deceased should still be entitled to alittle respect reguardless if we knew them or not.

Thank you
EliJay

I am sure this happens everywhere without people realsing they are doing it, indeed when I used to take my two sons to their grandmother's grave to lay flowers and have a chat with mummy it was quite impossible to stop them standing on the grave next door no harm was intended, unfortunately these places dont come with a great deal of room between them  :(

I met Kingsley only once...during my trip to Calis in early November last year.  Angel had just taken him under her wing at that point and, yes, he was frail, but he was most certainly a distinguished gent and his passing is saddening news.

I would just say to the OP that there was, more than likely, no disrespect intended by the actions they witnessed. Funerals in Turkey are, for many different reasons, more light-hearted affairs than here in the UK.

Hello there,

I whole heartedly take on your comments however theses graves stand a good metre off the ground so there was no accidental standing on graves, which lets face it has happened to us all without knowing we are doing it but theses people sat on the marble tomb for about half an hour, all the other people who attented Kingsleys funeral did not have any trouble standing whilst paying there respects.

I understand turkish funerals are more "hands on" then english ones but to turks there is nothing more important than family, alive or deceased.

I appreciate all your comments

There was no disrespect intended.  Two were over 70 and the other has a bad back.  After standing for most of the service the one with the bad back sat down as she could stand no longer.
If it was my grave, I would be more than happy to know that I brought comfort to someone who was attending a funeral by letting them perch on the edge of my tomb.
