Carnival 2013
« on: October 17, 2012, 23:22:54 PM »
I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question but is there anyone who has a clue as to when the carnival will take place in 2013?
I have to put in my 2013 holidayrequest within two weeks. We took up the plan to go for a fortnight in september next year but would also love to squeeze in a week for the Çalis Carnival. If it's not known yet we'll probably have to gamble the last weekend in may...

Hi John, sorry but there has been no decision taken yet about next years carnival.  As soon as something definite is known I will post on here.  Whatever happens the 3C's are planning to hold their annual street craft fair and Promises Auction and this usually takes place last week of May/early June.  Dates of these will be announced shortly.  Sorry I cannot be more helpful at the moment but as you probably know, although we organised the Carnival for the first 3 years, for the last two years it has been organised by the Calis Association.

Thank you very much Chrissie. I guess we'll have to choose between the last weekend of may and the first weekend of june. I'm slightly leaning towards the first weekend in june. Am I correct in assuming the Fair preceeds the Carnival?

Yes John, the spring Fair is the kick off to Carnival week on the Sunday, with Carnival day being the following Saturday. Promises Auction has, for the last 2 years been the Wednesday after Carnival Day

Presumably a decision has been made by now!

Can anyone supply dates of the carnival festivities, please?

Many thanks.

Hi WendyA, I am afraid we still have not had confirmation from the Calis Association as to if there is going to be a carnival this year.  We believe that there may be some type of event(s) but not carnival as we have come to know it and that these may take place at different dates.  Mete Ay of Golden Moon Estates and Hotel who is the Chairman of the Association (and also an occasional member of the forum) is the one who has the final decision on this and we can only wait for information from him.

However     there is a great festival called FETAV Fest which will be taking place from 17-24 May in and around the Fethiye/Calis area.  We attended a planning meeting yesterday and it is going to be a really great week culminating in a big free open air concert on Friday 24 (similar to the earlier Calis Carnival concerts) and there will be some great acts and familiar faces

As part of the week's festivities  the 3C's are holding a big beach party and BBQ at Guvens Bar on Tuesday 21 May with live entertainment, music disco and lots lots more - details to follow.

The official publicity for the whole weeks activities will be issued shortly by the organisers so I will not say any more at the moment other than it will be a great week and a good time to book your hoidays.

Also, even if the Calis Carnival does not take place, the 3C's will still be holding their annual carnival fundraising events in the week immediately following the FETAV Fest - there will be the annual Spring Craft Fair in the main street in Calis on Sunday 26 May (now in it's 6th year!)  and the annual Charity Promises Auction on Calis seafront on Wednesday 29 May

Really pleased to hear about the FETAV Fest.  We usually manage to just miss Carnival week (apart from once!)  but will be in Calis 9th to 25th May this year so will catch all of it.  Looking forward to more details about the events.   :)
