The greatest problem with buying in Turkey is asking the advice of people who have stronger views on what you should buy than you might suspect. The ability to listen to what potential buyers want to buy, then convince them not to and to buy what they want to sell can be extremely powerful and passes almost undetected under the label "advice". Maybe the agent hasn't sold for months (quite possible) and now they have you and you don't want the villa that the builder is paying 10% commission on, you want the resale that the owner is only paying 3% on. Time to change your mind, and quick...
Same can goes for Joe (or Mehmet) Public. It's hard not to listen to a man at a bar who is from your own country but lives where you are looking to buy, and of course many are very knowledgeable and informative. But how many people consider that sometimes, they tell you not to touch that property with a bargepole because of reasons a, b, and c, whereas they don't want you to buy it, perhaps for reason d, that they get a commission for bringing customers from some agents - and you didn't see this villa with those ones. Or because it's like their villa, and their villa is for sale.
So there's some advice to chew over. What it probably means is, by all means listen to advice - but pool it, just because someone told you that the one you like is in a bad area, or is sinking, doesn't necessarily mean it is...
