Also ıf you have an evisa you do not need to queue up at the visa offıce you just go straıght to passport control. Saves tıme but some are stıll waııtıng ın the queue to show theır vısa.

When traveling to a foreign destination the first thing you should check is what visa's are required. You would think that this would be done without even thinking about it.Why would you assume you would not need a visa to enter the country that you are visiting.Everybody has the internet search facility somewhere. The good old days of travel agents where you would sit at a desk and book your dream holiday and they would tell you everything you need to know seem to be a dying trade as more and more people choose to sit at home and book the flights via one site and then book property on a different one .But no one will tell you about travel requirements as this is your responsibility. :o

I agree with Mac2010,

but, I guess if people have only ever holidayed in Spain, Portugal, Greece etc (EU countries) they may be blissfully unaware that Visas are needed for everywhere else in the world.

That's true, to a certain extent.  However, I'm pretty sure that visa requirements are published on carrier/holiday company web sites when booking therefore it's unlikely anyone can make a booking without it being made obvious at some stage of the process.

I am sure that it will make people think twice about paying 80 pounds on top for a family of 4.... Or 60 pounds if done on line...

On our flight out last weekend - with Jet2 from Leeds Bradford - the couple in front started to panic when one of the stewardesses reminded passengers about the visa requirement.
(Unfortunately she had the wrong information and said it was £10...we told her it was now £20, which caused some hoo-ha when she made the revised announcement.)

The original couple I mentioned had no English money with them and said they had no idea they were supposed to get a visa because they booked their flights and accommodation themselves, independently, so there was nobody to let them know.

I also book flights independently and know that Jet2 send out reminder emails which specifically mention the need for a visa; I think the problem is that many people just think it's another spam message trying to sell them in-flight meals or something and delete without reading.

They were hoping they could pay by credit card; I didn't see them after we got off the plane so I have no idea what happened. I agree with Mac2010 though - if I'm going to a new country, checking out the paperwork/visa requirements is one of the first things I do.

We arrived in the early hours of the morning.  Got to the queue at customs and there was a couple in front of us and she told him to go and get is visa.  He went off and came back and said there was nowhere to get it.  So, they continued on.  When they got to the desk he said he had no visa. The guy made a phone call and then told them to go to the back of the queue and wait.
I agree with everyone else, there are so many website with Visa information and the tour companies do tell you about the visa requirement.
I would also say, that the Turkish folk who want to visit the U.K. will pay a hell of a lot more than we do, to enter our country.
