Dolmus
« on: June 18, 2014, 08:47:35 AM »
Shamefully we are visiting Calis for our fourth year and have never been on a Dolmus, we are staying in the Telmessos complex and have always used taxi's , but this year without our daughters we intend to break our Dolmus virginity and sight see a bit more, is there an etiquette ie right change, and what sort of prices?  i've not seen bus stops, so  i assume you flag them down and are there any do's and don't's and what times do they run in the evening?
quite exciting really (i know ,we don't get out much!)

Its still 2 TL into Fethiye, they do like to have the right money so don't try paying with a 100 tl note   :)
Last Dolmus back is around 11:30pm depending on which route you are taking.
You can still flag them down and be dropped of anywhere on the route but in Fethiye they will only stop at the bus stops....

In my opinion the dolmus is the best way to get around.  2tl into Fethyie from the Calis terminus and from there you can go anywhere in the surrounding area.
Have fun

The dolmus is the best way to get quickly from A to B, but they are usually smelly, crowded, incredibly hot and the older ones are very uncomfortable.  Try going into Fethiye on market day!!.  The water taxi may be dearer but the views and comfort are well worth it.  On the dolmus going to OluDeniz a woman fainted whilst standing in the very over crowded aisle.

We love the dolmus, been on many. The best way to get around and experience turkish way of life. We would recommend Uzumlu from the dolmus station behind the petrol station near the Tuesday market, the journey out to Saklikent is another good one from the big mosque. We have been known to go to the dolmus station and jump on one to see where it goes and return. If you wish to go further afield go to the otogar for more destinations like Kas/Kalkan/Dalyan via Ortaca/Marmaris etc. etc.
Enjoy the journeys - we do.

Absolutely agree. Just go to the station and hop on to see where it takes you. Great fun and a bit bit of a mild adventUre. Careful though, it could cost you a packet.
We ended up buying a house in Uzumlu.

Hi Cheffy,we catch the dolmus outside the alperin hotel, not sure of the timetable though, and yes you usually stick your hand out to make them stop. The water taxi ride back is fab n worth the bit extra have a great time.

Good luck to you all, still prefer water taxi from Calis to Fethiye, each to their own!

We've done the river taxi,  and agree it's a wonderful trip we always use it to get to Fethiye, then have to taxi back as we are always too late for public transport, oops!  But looking forward to some mini adventures on the Dolmus!
