when we had the villa off Baris Manco Bulvari my daughter always referred to the road as barry manilow bulivard . It became a family joke, always calling it Barry Manilow amongst ourselves but was always careful not to outside our own circle as afraid we were being disrespectful . we imagined Baris Manco being ataturks best mate or some great leader/politician/war hero. What a laugh when we discovered who he was.

Thanks to Wikipedia

"Mehmet Barış Manço (born Tosun Yusuf Mehmet Barış Manço;[1] 2 January 1943 – 1 February 1999), known by his stage name Barış Manço, was a Turkish rock musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and television producer. Beginning his musical career while attending Galatasaray High School, he was a pioneer of rock music in Turkey and one of the founders of the Anatolian rock genre. Manço composed around 200 songs and is among the best-selling and most awarded Turkish artists to date. Many of his songs were translated into a variety of languages including English, French, Japanese, Greek, Italian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Persian, Hebrew, Urdu, Arabic, and German, among others.[3] Through his television program, 7'den 77'ye ("From 7 to 77" ;), Manço traveled the world and visited most countries on the globe.[4] He remains one of the most popular public figures of Turkey."

He was quite young when he died.   I had not heard of him, so thanks for the information.

Another thread just prompted me to look at Google Maps and this reminded me to ask the question :

Who was Ibrahim Gul ??

He got a Cadde named after him - not a Bulvar. Once famous for being the road with the Dippy Bridge.

Any one know ??
