Mossies

My wife has been out in Turkey for the last 2 weeks with no mosquito bites - and then - on first visit to Calis she gets 20 bites. Any views on whether situation is better or worse than in previous years?

I think that this year is better, they are spraying regularly, we just got back, in two weeks my wife had none, I got three and my youngest daughter got two. The only one that had a problem was my eldest daughter who collected about ten at the Water Park!

Can't really comment whether it's better or not although I've been out twice this year totalling 5 weeks. Luckily the little bu**ers don't have an appetite for me and I never get bit. However it would be interesting to know where your wife spent two weeks without getting bitten.

It is funny how some people never get a bite and others get mauled. I am one that never gets a bite. I feel quite rejected!!
On a serious note there must be a scientific reason for this as surely it can't just be chance.  I have oily skin which presumably is thicker than dry skin and I take aspirin daily which thins the blood a bit - could this be the reason why or is it that mossies are intelligent and they think I am not that tasty or worth attacking!

I've been living here just over 10 weeks now, andi haven't been bitten once, before i came over, i was taking vitamin b pills, someone on the forum said they help, but on saying that, i haven't even heard any buzzing around my head either, andi've been sleeping on my balcony most nights. Alan

Hi just to clarify, the tablets are vitamin B1 and have prevented my wife and myself from being bitten in the last 4 holidays in Calis in the last two years.

I've just got back after 3 weeks, I usually get eaten alive, this year I used mosquitoe bands and only got bitten twice.

I was only bitten once this year, and like Fran I usually attract mossies and come home covered in bites. But I also noticed them spraying this year so that's probably the reason why! I can't remember even using repellant this year!

 :)There are different theories as to why some get bitten more than others, the main one being the scent thats given off by your body,I will definately try the vitamin B1 this year, Its the night time the little bu-gers come out,

I usually get eaten alive at home with midges and abroad with mozzies - 2 weeks in Calis with a grand total of 4 bites - all from my first night - our hotel room doors had been left open to air the room for us and I think that is how they got in.

I had been taking Vitamin B in the 2 week run up to our holidays but forgot to pack the tablets so didn't have any to take while I was there.

I used anti histamine cream on the bites and took anti histamine tablets for the whole holiday and the bites cleared up nicely. Used Jungle formula extra strength in the evening and slept with the windows closed. - Oh and drank lots of G&T as I heard that it was good for repelling mozzies too - any excuse!
