The "I Bought in Turkey & I am Happy I Did" Thread

Being new to the process of buying property overseas I don't know whether we were lucky or just practical when we bought. We came to Calis on holiday considering buying a property but telling ouselves it would never happen. We had made arrangements via 3 different agents we had met at "a Place in the Sun" exhibition in London in Spring 2007 that we would spend a day with each agent looking at the options around the area and deciding where we wanted to locate and then finding the right property in that area. I have to say all the companies were excellent although we did see some properties at least twice - there was no hard sell just helpful suggestions and valuable local information passed on to us. We finally bought an apartment to get a foothold in the Turkish market from MG Home Projects via Oceanwide properties and all I can say is that the guys were magnificent in the way they helped us. Everything from tax to tapu was sorted for us and we were escorted through the whole process very quickly and efficiently. Post buying the snagging details have all been sorted and we have been treated very fairly throughout. I have to admit to being somewhat bemused on a sunday morning in late October 2007 after torrential rain the night before when a chap appeared at the door demanding to see the roof (at least that's what we eventually worked out after I'd shoved his head under the leaky washbasin thinking he was the plumber!). The builder had sent him to check that after the first rains the roof had seen there wasn't a problem. As in every country (and let's not hold up the english system as a paragon of virtue) there's good and bad. With 20/20 hindsight we may have been lucky but we found by working at it and making sure we were 100% happy with the arrangements before parting with our cash we got our dream. :D

We bought from Tracey at Premier Estates and after spending another week in cold, wet and dreary England I am even happier that we bought here. We go back to visit our children and grandchildren. That is the only reason to go back. If anyone tells me that it is cold in the evenings again in Fethiye then I will tell them to go and spend a week in Huddersfield !!! I think most people here have forgotten what cold really is. We came back to weather that we are lucky to get in the Summer in England. It is great to be able to have all of our doors and windows open and to be able to relax doing a bit of gardening. We are out for a meal tonight which we know won't break the bank and are sure to wake up to sunshine tommorow. Brilliant.

We chose our apartment last year whilst it was partially built, our builder allowed us to change the layout and add an extra bathroom at no extra cost!!  We completed in January and the builder delivered the TAPU to the apartment we were staying in on that same evening.
The whole experience was, in the main, very positive..... and our Estate Agent... Harbour Houses.  We are absolutely delighted with the apartment and the smooth way the transaction went.

I purchased my place in the Summer 2005 with Seaside. Turgut Bey (the owner) was brilliant from start to finish.

The good agents more than out weigh the charletons thank goodness and my only advise to anyone that is thinking about buying here is to stick to the reputable agents, and don't cut corners in order to save a few ££

We bought from "Kings in Turkey", they couldn't have been more helpful.  I would thoroughly recommend them.  Our builder was "Robin Hood", sure we had the odd little problem (but who doesn't), but on the whole we are very happy with the work and the finishing touches.

Life in Turkey suits us down to the ground.  Yes, we have to learn Turkish.  Slow progress but we will get there.  Love the changing seasons.  Love the people.  Love the lifestyle in general.  We feel very lucky to be here.

I did forget to add that we had some very sound advice from friends (Anne and Barrie)who also put us in touch with someone at the forum who did help to calm our nerves a little when we heard of a particular incident.

It was invaluable to us having advice from people who had purchased in the past and I think we are in the majority of people whose experience was good.
