HELP. New unlocked phone now locked???
« on: March 28, 2008, 08:12:01 AM »
Can anyone here PLEASE help me??

Just bought a new Samsung E590 phone which was unlocked to any Network. When we turned it on it asked us which network we wanted. - We chose to go with Orange.

When we purchased it was because it was triband & therefore we could use in the US when we go there on Monday & for Turkey - of course! We told the salesman in the shop this & he said it would work in US fine with US sim card.

So far so good. I purchased a Cingular SIM card (also AT & T) card off ebay so we can phone the daughters on arrival. You can activate this online so I did this yesterday - getting prepared, as you do!

Swopped back to the Orange card as we need to ring one another this afternoon. OMG the phone won't work in Orange now - although when turned on it says Orange it says 'limited service' on screen & there is now a red line through the telephone. When I try to make a call it says emergency service only.

HELP - Can anyone tell me how to get it back to normal OR where I can get a free unlock from????

IF we put the Cingular/AT& T back in after unlocking (if poss) am I going to get more problems????

Take it back to the shop where you purchased it and get them to sort it would seem to be the way to go. :)

Was going to do just that after fiddling with it & getting nowhere.
HOWEVER I must have done something to sort it - goodness knows what as I had the fright of my life when it started ringing when I was fiddling with it again. PMSL
MJaybe I should read the booklet that came with it - OOPS!
All fixed - is unlocked it appears - as advertised on the package.
Sorry all.

Hi Linda, looks like this may no longer be helpful but I e-mailed my son earlier, fell asleep, woke up to find his reply (below) & your new post on here :D.  Thought I'd post this anyway just in case it's helpful  :) I'm not properly awake yet  :-\ ;)

"Needs an orange Sim. If it is an orange Sim then needs to call
orange. And simply explain she only has limited service
If she's using the American Sim here she needs to manually search for
orange"

It looks like unintentionally I did that :-)
I clicked on the world icon at one time & it did show Europe + I made triband again.
I didn't half get a shock when it rung though as I'd been ringing it with no success. PMSL
Thanks anyway Carolyne - now I know :-)
