WARNING! -- XL have filed for bankruptcy.
« on: September 11, 2008, 23:33:11 PM »
Breaking news - On TV at moment on BBC News 24 - XL have filed for bankruptcy.
At the moment they are saying that probably flights from tomorrow are a bit iffy - as I write they are saying now in administration.
ANYONE with a booking NEEDS to watch!
They are saying it all might change in next few hours.
GULP - I nearly booked today with them.
I HOPE this works out for everyone!

They are now saying that they are STILL accepting bookings!! They are in admin BUT things will become clearer in a few hours BUT there is no guarantee that flights will continue?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - I really hope that the flights keep going!

Their website now appears to be down. It's still there BUT it keeps looping you back to the front page - as it did last week. This stops you from booking.
Fingers crossed everything will be OK but if they didn't fix their fuel costs they might go the same way as Zoom. I'm expecting flights to go up in cost bigtime now.

Thanks Linda, I'm flying out today with Tompson but my return flight on 22/09 is with XL. Just checked the latest news, and the situation with XL looks extremely grim - now I'm worried that my holiday may have to be cancelled. I have never been in this situation before, so not quite sure what happens? Will phone the booking agents when the office opens for advice.

Ian

FTC - DAL- Gatwick
 22nd  21.50 - 203 Euros
 23rd 01.20 - 149 Euros
 23rd 04.15  - 169 Euros

FTC Dal- Stanstead
22nd 23.35  - 149 Euros

Aegean
22nd  17.45  - £220

There will be a GREAT shortage of flight in the next 2 weeks.
You NEED to GRAB it while you can.

First choice seem to have already taken all their Dal- Gat ones for next month off the site - they were there earlier as I put in wrong month by mistake.

You should be protected if you paid by credit card under section 75 & it was OVER £100

Linda, I cannot thank you enough for your promt posting regarding XL, had I not been logged on to CBF I probably would not have had any idea until we arrived at the airport for our outward flight to Dalaman. Thanks to your warning, I have managed to secure return flights with Thomas Cook for 294 euros for my wife and I. Unfortunately I have no chance of reimbursement for the cost of the XL return tickets, but at least the additional cost of the TC return tickets ensures that we can continue with our holiday (and we get an extra day  :)). Once again, thank you so much for the posting - testament to the value of the CBF - I hope that others who find themselves in the same situation have a happy ending to this unexpected situation  :)

You are welcome - just sorry that I was the bearer of the bad news. Glad to hear you managed to get a flight & therefore a holiday - you DID have the advantage over many in that that you keep silly o'clock hours too - so therefore saw the warning.
Maybe we can help other members who are stranded out there & need to get back? Although it seems that many operators have outrageously hiked their prices by double or more. I doubt we'll see many flights available once the tour companies main staff get into work.
I don't envy the ones stuck out there on flight only. It'll be a nightmare for the next couple of weeks.
STILL - your employer can't really sack you if you are stuck in paradise due to an airline collapse - look on the bright side peeps!
