Ziggy I am no finance expert. You should speak to one of the local banks. 10k sterling should get you around 200tl a month

Yes interest rates do come into it,saoirse, but here in turkey prices have not increased..wow an i going to be shot down in flames..i mean, living,,vegetables, fruit, local produce.....its the same/simular to a year ago...so interest rates dont come into it..as i said earlier..10 ytl a year ago STILL buys you 10 tl worth of home groan goods..for example, tourist prices that is......one year ago..sweet and sour chicken in a local bar/restaurant was 12 ytl   this year, summer season that is , was...12.5yt..yes its increased...by 0,5 ytl, thats the same as inflation...i could go on..but wont, im sure someone will be able to shoot me down in flames..Turkey will to me...be so much better than the Uk for a better style of living......sorry ive gone of topic ...but feel so strongly about people that feel turkey is not a "good deal" as in interest :)

before we go completely of topic the first thing to think about is are you A) going to live in turkey if so how will you fund this? B) if not to live there but to holiday / own holiday home there you investment decsions need to to be carefully thought through. investing just £10k anywhere will not be enought to live off, in uk you will need £700k + and in turkey I would guess at around £100k would do. remember spead you risk!

But Turkey has an official inflation rate much well above the UK. You have to look at more than fresh fruit and veg - cars, electric, water, fuel, household items etc etc to get the full picture.

yes..... and the pound has stayed the same rate roughly over the past few years compared to the tl which means it not keeping pace with turkish inflation..and, local prices in fuel, electricity and taxation have gone up considerably. i have found that in the last five years prices in relation to the pound most prices have at least doubled and in some cases trebbled, however i find and many others that living in turkey the plusses far outweigh the minus's finacially and other wise.
