Thanks all for the replies, I will pass the information on. If you see a couple of very white, slightly overweight blokes who don't look at all comfortable riding a bike, looking a bit shifty around hedgerows and the roadside. Please ignore them !!

Hi George,

Stuart and I came over last year at the end of March and we walked right down the far end towards Koca Calis, and where the road bends to what was 1881 suats and Liman, we saw loads of them there, they were making a right noise, mating season apparently!!!, Stuart picked up one that was huge and a right feisty little devil he was.

I have to say it made my day and my holiday actually, I had not seen tortoises for years and years...it was great.

So, hope you get to see some George..

June

If you do pick one up be sure to wash your hands well as they are carriers of salmonella which gives bad food poisoning. They also get ticks on them and these can go on to dogs. (I do like tortoises though!)

Tortoise p0rn on the forum. Whatever next? We have  2 baby tortoises and 2 larger ones. It  must be the mating season as these to were "at it" as well last week.

Took the kids to Paignton Zoo many years ago when they were very little and all we could hear was this rythmic clacking/cracking sound and loads of heavy breathing only to find out it was tortoise breeding season. That was an interesting one to explain and
My uncle had a tortoise for years and it had a large stone for a "girlfriend", must be a very amorous breed. Was going to say something about Sting and Tantric s~x but think I'd better leave it now  :o :-\
