I've heard of people buying 6 fake handbags for a tenner from the market!:D And they think they're a bargain![^]

Just shows what taste some people have!

As for the 'genuine fake genuine' bags - the sellers are tapping into people's snobbery.  After all, it's only because people want to walk around with a Burberry/Mulberry/Chloe etc that they'll happily pay through the nose for one.  Unless a certain bag is particularly beautiful I wouldn't buy one (fake or genuine) just because it had a designer label! I've heard of people who buy and wear fake designer bags/watches etc that they don't really rate!  That sounds like snobbery at autistic level![:X]

And all of this applies to the genuine item too.  Dior/LV etc wouldn't be able to charge up to £9,000 for a handbag unless they knew that a portion of their customers were challenged enough to pay that sort of money for a piece of leather (albeit good quality) that's been designed by a supposedly genius designer, and possibly had a young Chinese girl hand-stitch it together.  If you took the price of ALL materials, and totted up the hours of work that go into putting it together I would say even the most expensive bag in the world could not possibly cost more than £100. Top whack. Unless it's studded with large diamonds!

And as for people wearing fake Rolex's etc.........I don't know why they bother. It's obvious to most people that it's a fake. Especially when a genuine Rolex is possibly worth more than their car is!:D

Having said all that I myself have bought a couple of fake handbags in Turkey, but I bought them because I liked the design.  I didn't buy them for the label.

What Rubbish! Quote" I bought them because I liked the design "  Could it be someone likes the design of a Rolex but can't afford the £5 grand for a real one?.......just like you and the bag you liked

You've made a good point, Tribelelder.  I'm sure some people (myself included) would  buy a fake if they genuinely liked the design, and it was good quality too.  But I've seen fakes that look like they belong in a toy store - and plenty of people buy them just so they can walk around in 'designer' gear.

As for liking the design of Rolex's - I personally don't.  I go by 'look' rather than label.  But that isn't to say I don't like some designer goods.  I do, and I buy them occasionally - the genuine ones.  But only if I think they're worth the money.

I wouldn't buy a fake bag or watch just because it had a designer label attached to it.  I buy things I LIKE. If I saw a handbag I liked in Primark I'd buy it - I have nothing to prove to anyone. Likewise, if I see a fake designer bag I like in Turkey I'll buy that too - but only because I LIKE it.

And although I'll buy genuine goods too I have to REALLY like the item to shell out thousands of pounds for it. Good job I'm not a slave to designer labels - I'd have to take up another paper-round!:P

sorry guys just caught up on this thread, Jackie, Woodbury common is amazing isnt ! I love it there, i take my suitcase with me so i dont have to lug all the shopping bags around with me, so much easier. Hoping to get out there in January. As for the bag prices, in Hisaronu these past couple of years ive thought the prices have gone up, and like you jackie im good at haggling, but this time around (i went in June) i didnt buy 1 single bag, because not many took my fancy, but they seemed very stubborn on moving on the prices. one guy was good, i was looking at 1 Jimmy Choo bag started off at £220 and i got him down to £30 but then changed my mind (which to be fair peed him right off) but at the last minute i thought ' i really dont NEED this'(im trying to be good!). My first year in turkey (10 years ago) I can honestly say i came back with 18 bags! I was a kid in a 'sweet' shop when i saw the bags. Like you jackie my problem is handbags, and shoes oh ok then and clothes! but anyway back to the subject, the guy i buy my bags from has always done me a good price, but he said the wholesalers in instanbul, their prices have increased which in turn means they have to increase, thats all i know folks! x

Just arrived back from eight days in New York... Got a Chloe bag and also Jimmy Choo Shoes at Woodbury Common.  There are so many bargains.... For example in Quicksilver shop got a tee shirt for my son one for his girlfriend and then decided to get my son a hat as well ( original price on the hat was $29.00 )  Took the three items to the counter total bill was $13.00. Bought a trouser suit with matching blouse at the Kasper shop (don't miss this one, clothes are fab) suit was $79.00 saw the same one in Macy's for $210.00 I don't bother with a suitcase I just use the lockers for hire in Woodbury, just keep going back and filling one up.
Jacqui.

There's no way I'm going to read 5 pages on the subject of girly handbags so apologies if this has already been said. The reason fake handbags (and indeed anything else on the planet) are so expensive is that people pay the expensive prices being asked.

Economics works for women too :D

I used to be a real sucker for the handbags until they started topping the hundred pound mark-too much for what is  afterall a fake.

I went out to Turkey twice last year and twice again this year and haven't bought a single bag because any of the nice ones are over £200 which I reckon is just crazy!

When we were staying in Fethiye last month I didn't step foot in a bag shop...Hubby thought it was bliss- and then dragged me into Funda Watch where we bought a fake watch each LOL!
