Hi Susan,
Our journey hope it may help to plan your own
This is our journey others will have more. We used the EURO MAP 1.750,000 Euro Country map TURKEY. For information we used DK Eyewitness Travel Guides TURKEY, both have served us well on this and other trips. To follow our trip, these would make it easy to follow.
We travelled in a Fiat Doblo Diezel 1.9cc serving us well, we had no mishaps with the mechanics or incidents.. This was May 2007. We found the main roads were on the whole very good and once out of towns or cities very quiet. The "B" roads you must take as you find. The third party driving is the same all over Turkey in our opinion. Total journey around 2000k
This is our main route will add detail later.
Ovacik to Antalya No 300
Antalya to Manavgat No 400
Left after Manavgat onto the 695 to Beyshehir
Beyshehir to Konya No 300
Overnight in Konya
Next Part when you are ready.
Konya to Sultanhani No 300
Then to Aksaray No 300
Then to Nevsehir (Cappadocia)
OUR Return
Nevssehir to Derinkuyu No 765
Then to Guzelyurt
Stay in Guzelyurt
Then to Taspinar. Our choice to visit the carpet village, there are other routes as you can see on the map. Your choice to Eregli
Taspinar to Eregli No's 750 330
Then No350 to Karaman.
Karaman No 715 Then left off 715 to Boskir on the No350 Check on map..
Boskir to Yarpuz this is a "B" road but a fantastic drive take you time and enjoy.
Stop in Derekoy, Have a look around Very old Turkey at its very best.
Then as you see Akseki and the 695 again
We had a night in Side Centre. The wine and beer were welcome after the drive.
That was our route. The DK guide gives you easy to follow details if places. We add some of our info.
If we go on the Antalya road we nearly always have Turkish Breakfast in Bekciler about 75k from here Turkish place on the left hand side of the road. Not much to look at but good people and food.
Most of the roads we follow have the green scenic route so its everyone appreciation. Beysheir maybe good for lunch great interesting place with one of the many lakes up that area, Good to explore in its own right. Then off to Konya for a stay..
Konya makes up with interest what it lacks in alcahol if so inclined take your own or ask the hotel doorman. A must amongst many in Konya is the Mevlansa Museum DK Guide again it wont let you miss much. The next stage is totally different Central Anatolia flat as a flook roads are good but straight and very very very long. Sultanhani for lunch or a break. Then on to Nesehir.
We stayed in a rock place in Uchisar
http://www.sisik.com/ Sisik is a great guy the hotel unique and food to die for, they usually ask what everyone wants but there are many good places.
The DK Guide will show you the way around now. Just enjoy! Just to mention Underground cities?
We stayed 3 nights in Uchisar.
Then we move to nearby Guzelyurt in the
http://www.karballahotel.com/Accueil-Hotel-Karballa-Turkey-Anglais.html Fantastic place just booked on arrival not expensive.
From there again DK but don't miss Ilhara valley or Amasya.
After just follow you nose home and remember for ever more.
Remember this is our view our route things roads and such may be different. Explore and enjoy.
Good luck and let us know how you went.
