Should I worry ?
« on: August 24, 2009, 13:46:25 PM »
I have a hypothetical question .......

Supposing I owned a Villa in Turkey and occasionally I rented it to paying guests (An unlikely idea I am sure you would agree)

Supposing I insured the property with Intasure - the International Property Insurance Company as recommend by CBF

If I got a letter from Intasure saying something like "We are now required by the Turkish Government to obtain the passport number from the policy holder and pass this information to the Turkish Government" do you think this would be some cause for concern ?

All completely hypothetically of course.............

I don't see why it would be a problem?

Well, I suppose in this hypothetical situation the Tax man might be interested to know what was going on .........

Phil, It's to do with your DASK insurance (earthquake) cover which is compulsory in Turkey. Stop worrying, Big Brother is watching someone else.

Intasure would ignore any such letter I am sure. They insure things. They do not rent out properties or hold information on who is renting the properties they insure, so why would the Turkish Government contact them?

Should you worry Phil? If you find something worth worrying about it might be fun  ;)

Intasure charge a premium for "Renters" so presumably this information would allow people with an interest to work out who might be liable for tax ??

In my hypothetical scenario the letter has come from Intasure who have presumably been asked to supply the information to the Turkish Government. The letter seems to imply that providing the passport number will be required for the Contract to remain valid.

(I used to be paranoid but now I just think some one has got it in for me)

They don't ask you for details on who is renting, just whether you do or don't. This is for public liability insurance cover I assume. If you use it exclusively you won't need that part.

Have you ever wondered what might happen if all the spiders living within 3 miles of your house all came up your bath plughole at the same time?  ;)

OK, I'll stop worrying.....

But, if any one ever spots a confused person trying to fill in a Turkish Tax return at Dalaman airport Passport Control before being allowed in, it will be me !

(I did give the spider problem a little thought last time I was there but I concluded the Turkish pipes weren't going to be large enough for this to happen and the fact that we haven't got a bath in our house was of great comfort to me. Perhaps some one could let us know if this problem has happened to them and how they dealt with it ?)

Phil, we have our house insured with Intasure. We do not rent it out but we have also had a letter from them asking for passport details so don't think it's anything to do with that.
