I think it was more likely copied during a transaction not at the ATM

My daughter was visiting me in June and has a few weeks ago when checking her statement found withdrawals made from her account.

Her bank asked if she had been abroad recently and told her she had had her identity stolen.  The bank said a copy of her card had been made and they wanted her not to cancel it so they could trace the user.  After three withdrawals (of between £40 and £80) she asked the bank to stop the card as the bank takes weeks to refund money and she could not afford to do this.  Apparently her bank says the people that copy the cards making small withdrawals to test whether there is money in the account, then later sometimes buy a car on 0% interest in the first year, and then after a year the credit company will start taking large monthly payments out the account - the car meanwhile has probably been exported.   My daughter said the atm machine she usually uses is one in Hisaronu near Azda but cant remember which bank.   Just a word of warning!

That's the HSBC atm...always the busiest!! pretty scary though for that to happen.

The ATM by Calis Bridge has certainly been targetted this year. We met perplexed looking friends there who told us it was 'broken'. To cut a long story short- yes they had been 'helped' when the machine kept their card - and just briefly spotted the pin number come up on screen during the 'assistance. sadly had to explain what had almost certainly happened and they spent ages trying to get throught to their bank immediately.
Yes by then the account had been cleaned.
The world is a small place and the criminals can get around just as easily as you or I so sadly we must be careful wherever we are.

No the pin number SHOULDN'T come up on the screen - obviously whatever software these particular guys were using in their scam caused this. as they were being distracted at the time it was very fortunate one of them spotted it flash up.

How come all these things that are being reported on here are being reported by new users, or users who have only made 10 to 20 posts[?]  and why is it they are all 2nd or 3rd hand reports[?] and conveniently nobody ever involves the police[?]

Or is just coincidence[?]

erm.........think I join the sceptical group.

I think that someone may be playing sick games:-\

Definitely not Simon, this was real and if necessary the couple who live in Fethiye can confirm it- the only reason I have posted it is so that people are aware it happens here as well as in the UK. And one should be equally vigilant.

The pin doesn't come up on the screen and the scamers don't put software in to the machine they fit a card reader to the slot and ether stand behind you when you make the transaction or fit a small cam to read the pin. Always look at the slot if it doesn't look right don't use it.

Sorry but i'm not an expert, simply reporting what they said happened at the atm a couple of minutes after the event. Obviously both were confused and then highly concerned as they had not realised it was a scam.
