I didn't mean any disrespect to you hubblebubbles, I was commenting broadly after reading the first post on the thread where the op has only made a dozen or so posts.  It just seems that there is something being reported on here every day but nobody ever seems to report it to the authorities.  Apologies hubblebubble if you thought I was having a go at you, I wasn't.

I used to have it supplied by my company but I am now happy to pay  for CREDIT CARD SENTINEL myself. One phone call from anywhere in the world stops all cards pronto.

Like kenkay I used to have Sentinel provided by Lloyds bank when I was with them, I have been happy to pay for it since I changed banks. I lost my card wallet coming back from Tunisia, one phone call and all was sorted, cards cancelled and new cards ordered, I received one card within 48 hours.

Just a quote from the link posted by hubblebubble.

"In France, domestic credit card fraud has been virtually eliminated thanks to the use of PIN numbers - a system yet to be introduced in Britain".

How old is the article?

Here we go again, a post based on very suspect evidence supported by more posts with information that becomes almost laughable when looked at in a little more detail and I say it again, I don't blame the authors of the post's as I'm sure they have been told these stories (well most of the time!) and before you know it, newcomers to the forum have this picture of Calis as a place where you can't leave home or it will get burgled, the police won't be interested and might even try and extort money from you for making a statement, if you do venture away from base you are likely to get raped or mugged but only after you have been ripped off in a restaurant or bar but at least you will sleep well once back home as the gas they pump in really helps!

How about this as a way to stop this.

Only make a post on rape, rip-off, assault or burglary if it happened to you. There are more than enough members on here to be representative of what will and can happen to the tourist or ex-pat while in Calis and whatever happens out there, one of us are very likely to be either a victim or a first hand witness. At least that way we can report FACTS and not second or third hand hearsay.

Exactly the way to go.

reading these posts has made me realise that if it did happen to me, i don't have phone numbers kept separately to report my cards. as we usually take cash ( kept in safety box) but we could run out and have to use the atm's. will make sure i have card details from now on.it's easy to be wise after the event!

I feel mildly miffed that we are deamed not bright enough to comprehend the difference between hearsay and actual fact. [:(!]

Having read this thread and several others that bring to light issues relating to security personal or otherwise I can not see why it would effect a persons perception of an area.  What is posted is pretty much plastered over local papers in the UK everyday but it would not stop people going to London, Birmingham or Newcastle so why should it stop me visiting Calis or Turkey in general.

What it does highlight is just how vulnerable we really are where ever we go and just to be extra vigilant, but it would not stop me going.

I agree with the previous poster though it has made me realise that I rarely carry a list of what cards I have and how to cancel them quickly should anything happen. But that I can amend and should anything happen at least I know I will have a better chance of beating the bad guys, will also tell my partner and friends to back up their card details just incase, so realy from a bad situation something good has arisen and Calis is no worse off.
