You know those plastic cable ties? I took a bunch of them in my hand luggage a few weeks ago for our garden in Calis. The guy at M'Chester airport confiscated them because (and I quote) "they can be used to tie people up with" and he held out his hands with the palms together and indicated that his two thumbs could be imobilised by using one of them.
