Money raised from the 2009 Calis Carnival has helped transform the nursery classroom at a local school.
During the run up to Carnival, committee members visited Catalarik School on the Uzumlu road and were saddened to see the dilapidated state of their nursery classroom with its peeling paint and lack of furniture and equipment.
It was decided that some of the money from the 2009 fundraising efforts would be used to provide new classroom equipment for the school and last week this project came to fruition.
The Carnival Committee firstly purchased paint for the classroom and, during the summer holidays, parents and teachers at the school decorated the room in preparation for the arrival of the new equipment which included bookcases, cupboards, desks, chairs, rugs, a television, books and a big play slide.
Last Friday Carnival Committee members visited the children in their new cosy classroom and were treated to a selection of nursery songs by the happy youngsters. For photos see below.
Helping the children at Catalarik School is just one of the many projects being funded from the 24,456 TL raised during the 2009 Carnival year. At a recent meeting the money was allocated to fund several other deserving projects and details of these will be given as they are completed. In addition the Carnival Committee are again funding 10 university bursaries to help 10 local students through university as well as providing school uniforms for needy children.
A big, big thank you to everyone as we cannot do this without your support
