Injections for Holiday
« on: January 20, 2010, 17:57:17 PM »
My darling mother has just informed me that we're due injections in February for our holiday in Calis in July.

I got one last year (and it took a LOT of persuasion) and this year I have an option.

Do I actually need one?

Why do you think it is not necessary to vaccinate against these diseases?

Local clinics will vaccinate against Tetanus if you buy the vaccine in the chemists here, it is about 7 lira. In Ovacik there is a clinic on the left as you enter the village. Some chemists will also vaccinate for you if they have a person qualified working there.

Stepping on a nail or getting a scratch from a rose bush are enough to cause Tetanus.

Why not do some research on what the consequences are of catching it?

I can understand that very well. As I say though, research what happens if you do contract Tetanus . An injection is over in a matter of seconds and maybe a friend would come along with you for support.Think of something nice when it is happening like running along Calis beach!
If you had a daughter you would want her to be safe I am sure.

when I first visited Turkey 16 years ago, I was paranoid about everything as I was taking my children on my own. Off we all trotted to the surgery for our jabs, my son, 12 at the time was 1st. One jab in his bum! He screamed, my 4 year old daughter went hysterical! I quietly asked the doctor whether she would make her children have injections for Turkey, she said no. That was enough for me, home we went!
My son was quite peed off at the time though!!  :)

What injections do I need to be able to visit the UK? Never needed to take one here or take one when I went to Jamaica and Haiti last month.
