As Alper says the Bank do not guarantee your money, the goverment do, I am sure if a bank went bust tomorrow, the goverment  would pay out in a couple of days!!!!  ;)

Have just spoken to the manager of Zirat, and she says because main bank of Turkey, they really do guarantee all your money, and have now got it in writing, so a load off my mind, can,t think of anything worse than checking 3 or 4 different banks every month.  The only problem with Zirat is to get internet banking you have to be a Turkish citizen, but my banker just rings me.

Having worked for a bank I can guarantee you that no bank can give you a guarantee that they will give you all your money back. It is a ludicrous guarantee unless it is 100% guaranteed by the government.Throughout the banking world limited guarantees are given by governments. These guarantees are paid for through a levy that is charged to every bank.

Do you think that everyone would have got every penny back if the government had not bailed out Northern Rock.

If a bank has not got the funds to pay back its depositors then it cannot pay them back and all the guarantees that it gives are not worth the paper they are written on.

Personnaly I would not keep my money in a bank where the Manager does not understand the law, or puts a different slant on it.. :o
