Because Highlander I thought it was Victor Marlborough Sylvester who had the right number of O's and being born before WW1 could fit the description. It was before the clues.

As soon as scorcher mentioned cloughie,the nottingham forest theme tune sprang to mind,the first two words gave me a bit of a clue!!!i was there in those halcyon days....
