When I first read this thread I thought "We banned animals in the circus years ago"  I know its Turkey but didn't think so many people still paid for animals to be kept caged and drugged just so they could watch a few tricks being performed!!

While people still pay they will keep the suffering of the animals going!

Please buoycot!!

Ah, maybe so. I hate all the "pc" nonsense we read about - including banning or animals in circuses. The difference here is that the wild animals mentioned are pretty much drugged into a stuffed toy state. There's nothing exciting about a lion staggering around, seemingly unable to focus on anything.

All that said, and with some experience of circuses in both UK and Turkey, the non-animal parts have always been way better in Turkey - some of the acrobat acts would embarrass UK circus acrobats I fear  :)

i can reasonably say that the animals did not seemed to be drugged up, they were never whipped or hit during the performance, one animal fell and the trainer went straight over checked he was ok to make sure he did not need treatment as he fell on to his back leg.  the lions and the tiger were growling and snarling and playing in the ring as they would if they were in the wild. to me this is my opinion i enjoyed the circus out here more thn the british ones as it was not only acrobats and clowns and over priced tickets. if tha animals were or looked mistreated i would have walked out.

Have to admit never liked the circus

Just dont get the idea of making animals do things that are totally unnatural to them

Everyone to their own

Please dont go to this circus.Of course the animals are not whipped in front of the audience, this happens behind closed doors before the performance.Worldwide there still is terrible animal cruelty and it wont be stopped until we as humans become the voices for these poor animals.Just search on the internet about this topic, i guarantee you wont go to a circus involving animals ever again.A life for an animal in a truck and then made to perform for humans .....heartbreaking.

Whilst I'm not a circus lover I think we should all remember that Man has been the scourge of wild animals for centuries. We shoot them for their tusks, we shoot them for their skin and we shoot them for fun (I can live with shooting to eat).

My feelings are that some of these species will only survive in captivity - Pandas and Tigers for example - and having seen the way the young tigers were treat by the trainers at the sanctuary we went to in Thailand I was more than convinced they were looked after very well. Yes - trained to be friendly to humans but NOT to perform for them. We also visited Chiang Mai Zoo and saw first hand how well the Pandas and their babies were looked after - almost like royalty to be honest.

It's a sad situation when the only way we are likely to see these animals in the future is if we capture them and let them (hope they) breed in captivity.

Would agree with all you say Stoop.  If it is the only way to preserve the endangered species so be it.  What I would like to know is what happens to circus animals after they have outlived their usefulness?

We have just got back from a week in Calis, my husband and I took our daughter and nephews and neice, I thought that the acts were brilliant until the lions and tiger came out, to be fair they did look in good condition, then I caught sight of the size of the cages that they were kept in and then in dawned on me, when do they ever get to see any sunshine or any freedom and that made me feel ill, we went a few years ago and there wasnt any animals, why start now?  Is it reglated by anyone?
