We all know the saying two steps forward one step back - well what follows is a bit like this...
Firstly just to say that all the relevant paper work has been requested from the Oludeniz Belediye by our Lawyer - they have 30 days to comply and are running out of time.
License
We have had 3 different but reliable sources tell us that the Dolphin Park has been given a license for the pool. So to cut a long story short it seems the Ölüdeniz Belediye has given a license for the kiosk and the pool can be used for fun and entertainment.
There is no mention of Dolphins in the license but this license must be why they think they can sell swims with Dolphins. And we know some local tour operators like Hamish McTurk and Focus are taking people there.
Water tests
As a result of the water test ordered by the Health Minister it was revealed that a previous test had been carried out a week previously (also ordered by Ankara) showing the water to be unfit for humans. However we are waiting for the results of the second test and also the biologist tests for the suitability of the water for the Dolphins.
The Health Ministry understands that if the water is fit for Dolphins it can not be fit for Humans and vice versa so this situation will not be able to continue. It is very frustrating to have to wait but we believe we are making progress.
Local tour operators boycott
In the meantime it is of the utmost importance that we continue to spread the word and maintain the effort to stop people swimming in that pool. Incredible as it may seem to us that anyone would be so selfish and ignorant of the consequences of their actions there are clearly people out there that are - selfish and ignorant that is!
They might not be so happy to get in that pool if they knew their 10 minutes at fifty quid a throw per person could cause them to become seriously ill.
Health risks
As covered previously there is scientific research that proves many diseases can be transmitted to humans from Dolphins and also from Dolphins to humans. Here are a few reminders of what might result from swimming in a pool that has two Dolphins excreting 10-15 kilos of poop each per day.
Tuberculosis and other bacterial diseases such as Weils Disease a severe form of Leptospirosis characterised by jaundice, circulatory collapse and tendency to haemorrhage.
Herpes Virus
Influenza
Pneumonia
Dolphins also carry microbes/pathogens associated with food poisoning such as
Salmonella
E.coli
Listeria
However the work continues and we belive that the end is in sight. This is merely a temporary set back and we will not rest until Misha and Tom are back in the sea where they belong and in a much better place than Hisaronu or Kas ever was.
