This weeks Land Of Lights page 11 carries a good write up titled 'The Dolphin Park Planned at Olu Caused an Uproar Among Environmentalists'...

mentions
-the WWF coming and their pending report...
- letter to Minister of Environment and Olu Mayor by environmentalists calling for project to be cancelled and outlines reasons why
-Keramettin Yilmaz now evaluating protests after initially believing this would be good for tourism.

It goes onto say that they (the council) have asked for and will be guided by the opinions from experts and that building work has been slowed down...

All in all a well written and comprehensible article

Great news Nichola!!  As long as the council do not go back on the decision to be guided by the opinions of the experts!!  If Land of Lights have got it right and I'm sure they have, maybe, just maybe, we will achieve what we set out to do - STOP THESE POOR DOLPHINS FROM DYING A SLOW DEATH IN THIS 'POND'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fingers crossed!!

actions speak louder than words... not sure its actually a decision really but maybe it is paving the way towards a 'flip flop'  ;)

As you have all gathered I am totally opposed to even the concept of this!  I won't bore you with the details as it has already been posted by various people.
I do actually think we are getting somewhere!!
A post by Tribalelder earlier today does say businesses 200m away do not even know what is going on!  We need to spread the word in the local area.
We have all the Conservation Societies on our side who are making a lot of waves in the right places!!

The latest news is from Hisarder:

Feedback from Hisarder meeting with belediye: KY furiously tried to distance himself (belediye) from connection with dolphinarium claiming they only rented a patch of land and have no power to grant licences (same old). Clearly he is afraid of the s..t sticking......Hisarder are against the dolphinarium but feel the...y have to wait for further developments before taking their protest to a higher level
Come on everybody don't let all our efforts be in vain!!

Those photos are awful-the pool is so small.  This so must stop.  I know what you mean about buisnesses not knowing-everything I have talked to havent got a clue!  If you ask me they are trying to keep it hushed up-and when something is hushed up they know they are doing something wrong. urrrrhhhhh!

The mayor has always said this project will be finished - if the local Beldiye have leased the land to the Russians they can do what they like with it until they come to apply for licences!  That is a whole different ball game!!  The Land of Lights newspaper said that the council have asked for and will be guided by the opinions from experts.  They have also stated the decision to grant a licence is not up to them.  If the powers that be listen to the experts, take into account the damage that will be done to the environment, Hisarder being against it, taking into account that within the area their are 2 conservation sites being Dalyan and Olu Deniz, big holiday companies not promoting it as one of their tours etc. etc.
This is only the beginning - we all need to keep on sending those e mails continually even 4 or 5 times, it doesn't matter.  Everything helps in this fight!!
Just keep thinking of the dolphins we will save from A LIVING DEATH!!

I may not be visible at the moment, but I am writing furiously again  to everyone who might possibly be able to influence the decision to go ahead with this project.
I fear that too much money has been put in, for the "investors" to just walk away!
Remember, the swim space has been reduced further and is a mere 12 metres X 17 metres for two dolphins. Which certainly does not meet  the European criteria for keeping bottlenosed dolphins.
The officials know this.
I know that they have been given copies of the standards.
The standards are not only for the welfare of the dolphins.
The standards are also for the benefit of those that enter the pool with the dolphins.
For example, some standards are concerned with water quality; people entering warm water filled with faeces, urine and dead fish material, could become sick if the treatment of the water is not satisfactory. But adding high levels of chemicals to purify the water will not only make the dolphins suffer, but will also affect those in the water. The standards insist on regular testing, by qualified personnel.Where will the samples be sent for analysis in Hisaronu, and by whom.
The standards insist on minimum sizes for swimming areas, and other standards refer to insulation which will reduce outside noise and disturbance, temperature control, resting areas, qualified only personnel to have contact etc, etc. These standards are, to ensure that the stresses which can cause wild animals to become unpredictable, can be reduced.
What I am saying in essence, is that the standards are there for very good reasons, not only for the benefit of the dolphins but also for persons entering the pool.
If those in authority ignore any of the minimum standards, then they risk encountering serious problems with this project.
The Mayor KY has a copy of the standards.
It may be a case of putting money not only before animal welfare, but before public safety.
