"Dolphinarium plans create major protest"

Initial feedback from David Bellamy meeting now received.

He is on board and says we WILL WIN.

He suggested many things to do mostly what has been done by all of us already and of course to keep on doing what we are doing. He is going to come back to us with any other ideas or people to contact.

Our local Marine Biologist has met with the directors of SAD (underwater research soc)((NGO)) The president of SAD will go with the details sent to him next week to the head of agriculture in Ankara proposing why this location is no good for Dolphins.

She is also now currently writing the plan for a project that SAD is working on to set a standard in Turkey for the captivity of Dolphins and the many conditions and regulations that they will have to adhere too.........this is a massive project and will take time but its best in the long term for these and all of Turkeys dolphins.

Ideally we don't want dolphins in captivity, and SAD a number of months ago handed in a dilikce requesting the closure of all dolphinariums in Turkey........this is were this project and plan comes in as they don't think they will be successful in their application, so we're going for the next best thing.

Some of the other things up and coming include a meeting with the russian owner of our 2 dolphins....still waiting to hear a date and time for that one.

There are other things going on too and I will meet her soon to see what else can be reported.

Superb effort by a number of people, I have sent e-mails to more places than I can remember as have most people and they are clearly getting the message.

Well done again.

Yes, great news Nichola.
Just off topic a bit but have people heard/read that a Seal was killed in the Bodrum area a couple of days ago?  Protected species, only around 560 left (Mediterranean seal). Some p***t severely beat it and shot it twice.  Hurriyet Daily News.  So sad, so pointless, so sickening.

I signed a petition to stop the building of this 'Pond' on a petition site for voice 4 captive dolphins.
I have received a reply from Carina Vonk to say the petition has raised the signatures needed and been sent to the owners of the dolpohinarium at Kas

This has not been confirmed but it is possible that the pond for Dolpins is no more!

This is the rumour which we will do our best to confirm today and post here asap.

Only thought its fair to share the feeling of excitment as well as potential disappointment if this is not true.

I will be in touch with news as we get it... :D

If it is (Insallah) How long before some enterprising Mayor says "here is a nice swimming pool let's built a hotel round it":(

Or is that too cynical[?]

I hear its going to be a swimming pool and it is in a park so that would make sense. If it had been bigger they could have made it an aqua park.

But anyway... still need to have this all confirmed - be in touch  :)
