thanks everyone
the place for the party has already been decided, and a beach theme was also high on the list.... as you say would be easy enough to arrange...
other thought were toga,s BUT not sure how that would go down here due to it being a greek costume..... but it would be very easy as you would only need a length of material....
other thought was dressing as belly dancers!!!!
looking for easy and cheap ideas that would be easy... for people to adapt a costume to..
james bond was another, but came to the conclusion that it would be far to hot to prance around in dinner suits... BUT could maybe be adapted to black shorts and a dickiebow and women would wear black/white bikini s...??
any ideas welcome...
thanks jo and lewis

Jo, with it being world cup season, why not just have an international theme....anyone can come dresses in any costume from around the world....so you could have the poncho and sombrero for Mexico....belly dancing outfit for Turkey (even though they not in WC:(()...English theme (knotted head hanky, union jack stuff) etc etc....Im sure you would all be able to rustle up some stuff and use towels, sheets etc to make costumes. Bright colourful sarongs are fab for Niegerian/African countries and if you are really stuck...just go and buy a footie kit for the country you are representing from Hissy Market!!! :))))  (the bikini theme may not be very well received from the larger ladies!!!)

As an alternative, if you get a picture of a costume, most of the tailors will be able to knock up a passable version in a day or so

Just a suggestion but why not limit it to just masks. Would not take up much room in the case.
