Lift to the Airport anyone?

totally ridiculous [!]  how about when you are picking up elderly relatives that have difficulty walking and you need to help them carry backs etc [!][!]

This is absolutely disgusting. In effect any Turkish citizen can pick up their relatives, but expats can't! What would happen if this law was applied in the U.K.? Could you imagine all air passengers having to take taxi's to and from the airport? Seems to me that the government here are trying to squeeze every last penny from expats and their families. I wonder what would happen if families of expats suddenly stopped visiting? This would have a huge impact on tourism in this area.

More and more on this forum you read the ex-pats are being squeezed to the high hilt!  How far can the Government go before foreigners stop buying property and their relatives stop visiting due to the high costs of airfares, cost of living whatever?

If you can't even pick your disabled mum up at arrivals there is nothing more to be said!

The post said everyone has to pick up from the carpark, there was no mention of just one group or the other.... I suppose foreigners will stop buying property when the prices are so high there is no point in it. I am sure the kindness i have always seen extended to the elderly will happen at Dalaman, with wheelchair ass etc.  Much of this is being done to stop illegal pick ups from the airport, a fine example of the minority working illegally buggering it up for the rest of us.......you cannot work in Turkey without a work permit so dont........

The way I read it is that you can't make a business of airport transfers, a lot of people without permits etc do transfers & arrange tours for gain. This has always been the law in recent years. We are still picking up family & friends that are staying with us & have had no problems.

i think what they mean by transfers is in a bussiness way. i have noticed quite a few expats recently who appear to be doing transfers for profit gain and am sure they would be the first ones to complain if they were licensed and paid insurance etc. about illegal drivers taking work away from them.
i went up to the airport yesterday to pick up some friends...no problems whatsoever. and the carpark meeting area at the bottom of the ramp is quite organized and less cramped. noticably so as 3 plane loads were coming out at once.

Well said I was getting fed up standing at the arrivals door fighting with the must have a fag  brigade ,i am sure that if you are meeting elderly or disabled folk some leaway will be shown

I'm pretty sure it's just to stop unlicensed transfers. I mean - our friends go out to our house, hire a car for a few days. We arrive at the airport and they cannot pick us up? Doesn't make sense at all. As for getting in an unlicensed transfer car - don't do it. You will not be insured if there is an accident and your holiday insurance will be void in that case also. It could work out a very expensive ride. On top of that it takes away a job for a legitimate business - probably helping prices to rise.
