Dalaman airport and Onur air prices
« on: June 06, 2010, 18:51:12 PM »
I know that this topic has been hammered to death, but I am fuming at the way both of these businesses are able to charge such inflated prices without so much as a blink of an eye.
We were delayed yesterday at Dalaman just for an hour and a half and witnessed young families shocked at having to pay almost 4.80TL for a very small bottle of water to give their kids a drink. I know that most airports are expensive but at all UK airports the most I have paid for a quite a large bottle is £1.50.A beer in the very nice bar in the airport is 15TL!
On the flight it was even more eyeopening with staff stating quite seriously that the cost of a single can of coke would be £2.70 in sterling or 3Euro. Small bottle of water the same (cost of same @29Kuros in Fethiye)X5 a bit hard to swallow! One lady became extremely ill on the flight and staff brought her a drink I was waiting for them to charge for it. I am having a rant and I know it is not the staff's fault at all, but how worse is it going to get. I think that airlines have a responsibility to  passengers flying with them and that water should be a basic requirement, supplied free. Sorry for going on but I was so mad yesterday. ps. loved going shopping today for all the cheap things on offer at supermarket-  Mary xx

Totally agree with this sentiment. We noticed in Dalaman that cans of cola etc were not allowed through the scanner but the person behind us was allowed to bring through a bottle of water.  We flew Friday night back to the UK with Pegasus and the experience was much better with drinks and meals much better priced. And guess what...more were being bought!  I think Onur Air will find that their pricing policy actually leads to fewer sales and profit.

Its folks with kiddies that I feel sorry for. All the fast food outlets at the airport all charge the same prices. KFC, Burgerking, MacDonalds, Pizza place, all charge 22-25TL for their meal deals!!!!

As we don't expect flight delays we don't make provision.  Have learnt over the years to take a few butties, snacks etc just in case, but there is nothing you can do about drinks, de-hydration is a bit problem when flying and you need fluids!  Maybe when people start taking ill on flights who charge astronomical prices they might think again but I doubt it!

We found exactly the same thing Mary Anne, some man next to me on the Onur flight paid £9 for a water a coffee and a soft drink for his grandson, he had some coins ready but had to put them away and get a note out! I thought I would buy a water at the gate as I thought I would save a £1 at least by not buying it on the flight when I went to pay and handed her a 5 lira note she said sorry lady but dont have any small money here so in effect they are charging 5 lira for a small water! It is a complete rip off.
Hope that lady who was took ill was ok.

I've asked this question before - why aren't there any water dispensing machines at the airport?  If this country can put thousands of water taps along their roads (for, supposedly, travellers) then they should provide water at airports.  It's a basic human need.

The water you refer to is not provided by the state but by private families in memory of someone who has died.  The belediyes charge the families for water used.

Seems a far better way to remember someone than a lump of marble.

I understand many of the roadside fountains and taps are provided by vakif (with a dotless i) - Islamic charitable trusts.

But I wonder, liquids are banned now at Dalaman, is ice ok?  ;)

We will try and take a bottle through when we come back. I'm quite prepared to take a drink in front of them! What's the problem? Bombs are not made from drinking water are they?

Just a racket to get more money out of us.
