One of the remarkable things that came across from the programme was not how different life was for them, but how the differences seemed to slowly become normal and acceptable. I mean for example, how shocking it was to hear that the old mother hit the children with a stick when they couldn't make the bread correctly, but then how - as you watched more of the programme - it all seemed to be not much of a problem to know that as everyone seemed to be very loving and living what is a normal happy family life there.

I got the impression the older wife was quite clearly not happy about the situation saying the younger one had stolen her husband and he loved her very much.  But yet they seemed to get on remarkedly well and worked together for the extended family.
