Well, the news has now been updated, and it says that Cyprus Turkish Airlines have reached an agreement with Atlas Jet.  It all sounds like good news - we just need to see the planes flying out of Gatwick and into Dalaman now!   :)

If anyone is due to fly with them in the next few days, good luck with your flights, and please keep us updated on any communication from them.  I'm just wondering how long it will take for things to get back to "normal" [?]

There are 2 flights leaving Ercan in Cyprus, or so planned, on Tuesday. One will go to manchester and one to Stansted but both are via Antalya. There is no information at the moment on whether they will collect passengers from Antalya as obviously these flights might be full. There are also no numbers being given to check this. There has been local elections in Cyprus today, so no meetings have been held. Meetings are due to resume tomorrow.
Hopefully Atlas will take this over and all will be clear in a few days.
I work for a tour operator who uses CTA - Cyprus Turkish Airlines, or Kibris Turk Hava Yollari, so obviously we hope this is settled very soon. We have purchased flight tickets from other airlines for clients to be able to return to the UK from Turkey this weekend.

And here is the info Ron talks about:

The partnership protocol drawn up between Atlasjet and the debt stricken Cyprus Turkish Airlines is expected to be signed today. The Minister of Public Works and Communications Hamza Ersan Saner said that the government was determined to protect the rights of CTA workers, continue the existence of the Cyprus Turkish Airways name and to protect the rights of people with prepaid airline tickets.
Talks between Atlasjet and CTA continued yesterday and the Council of Minister met in the afternoon to evaluate the outcome of those talks.
Making a statement after the council of minister concluded their evaluation Minister Saner said ‘as the government we are determined to continue the existence of the Cyprus Turkish Airways name'.

Mr. Saner also said that the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkosa had called him and said that he would do everything possible to prevent the country's tourism industry from being harmed for the events.

Sounds like talks are still underway - fingers crossed they get it all sorted.  Thanks again Ron.   :)

Karaokemark - did you ring the office back on Friday to find out about your family's flights on 3rd July?  Just wondering if it's worth trying to ring them tomorrow.  I sent an email but still no reply.   8)

We tried to call them and could not get through, they have booked from east mid which is better for them, checked with the credit card co. and sent a copy of the information on the foreign office website, to say the company had ceased trading and they said they will refund the flight costs with KTHY, the new flights were cheaper

Here is the latest news of this morning:

Turkish Cyprus airlines, Atlasjet reach final deal
Turkish Cypriot national airlines (KTHY) and a private Turkish air carrier have reached an agreement on 50-50 profit sharing for five years.
Monday, 28 June 2010 11:00

Turkish Cypriot national airlines (KTHY) and a private Turkish air carrier (Atlasjet) have reached an agreement on 50-50 profit sharing for five years.

Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) told a news conference on Sunday that they succeeded in overcoming the problems in partnership talks.

"A new era has begun for the KTHY. After establishment of the new company, the KTHY will begin flying as the 'New Cyprus Turkish Airlines'. This is a 50-50 profit sharing agreement and a 51:49 joint venture," he said.

"The flights will begin in May 2011 the latest. Till then, all flights will be held with the Atlasjet fleet and under the title of 'Cyprus Turkish'," he said.

Kucuk added that 12 thousand passengers who bought their tickets earlier, would be carried by the Atlasjet free of charge.

Last week, the civil aviation authority of the TRNC suspended all flights conducted by KTHY and suspended its operation certificate since the KTHY was reported to owe nearly 40 million USD to the Turkish Cypriot Civil Aviation Department. Following the suspension of flights, Hava-Sen, Union of Workers of the Turkish Cypriot Air Carrier, went on a strike at Ercan Airport.

After long-running financial problems and growing debts, now around 100 million USD, Turkish Cypriot government decided to call for bids last month to find a partner to KTHY.

All we need to know now is how we get our new tickets then! :))
