Turkish Delight in hand luggage or case?
« on: June 24, 2010, 17:22:15 PM »
Friends of our are going back tomorrow and are worried about excess  baggage! Does anyone know if it is safe to carry Turkish Delight in your hand luggage? They have to go through Turkish and Spanish airport checks!

Last year my daughter took a 4.5 Kg box through in hand luggage. I think it showed up on the Xray machine like a block of semtex but when she offered them a taste they just waved her through:D

We took around 100 boxes to an exhibition in the UK once. It was a brilliant idea to give a taste of Turkey to potential customers - except we were given the chewiest Turkish Delight ever so nobody could say a word for about 10 minutes about anything at all, let alone about buying a property :D

We found the best place to buy it is the Goverment run shop in Paspatur.  It's the entrance at the zebra crossing and it's about 6 shops in on the right next to Saman.  It is kept in cool conditions and is always first class Turkish Delight.  We take it back for friends and would not go anywhere else to buy.  Always put it into suitcase and it seems to travel just fine :)

I have taken it both ways. At least in your hand luggagae it doesn't get thrown all over the place.

I once took some back in hand luggage, never again, all eaten before we landed.

Happend to me last winter and both the xray operator and the guard gladly accepted a couple of pieces.
