just read an artical in the paper saying thomsons from october are sraping there atol protection for there flight only,dont think it will be long before the other big operters do so.

Suppose it sort of brings them in line with the flight only operators. More reason to pay by credit card if you are booking flight only.

Just a couple of years back, I would only get my debit/switch card out for online purchases when time came around to book flights. Everything else I used my credit card. If I've learned one main thing from CBF, it's use a credit card and pay the credit card surcharge when booking flights. Money well spent.

There was an article in the Sunday Express this week regarding credit card protection payments; the article also pointed out that if you use a Visa debit card to pay for flights etc then you are also protected to the same rights as a Visa credit card.  
The article pointed out this little known fact.

That is true - a visa debit card has the same protection as a visa credit card - but still using a non-visa debit card doesn't.

If something does go wrong, how long on average does it take for a refund through Visa?

It took about 2 months when Globespan went down to get my money paid back into my bank account.

that's good Bruce, it took me about 10 months when XL went bust!

I was refunded by my visa card (Capital One) for XL flights 7 days for Kthy 10 days so no complaints there.

when xL airways went bust my brother had paid on hes visa debit card £780 and he lost all hes money!!!
