I was told by a the shop assistant in lovely wine shop in Pitlochry that Chilean wines are so  good because they are made with one type of grape instead of the mixes that some other places have to make them better.

Some  information that I thought I should share:D

That will upset them in Bordeaux!

The price of wine in our supermarkets has been quietly creeping up over the last few years. Although sometimes you can get something quite drinkable for less than £4 we find that, more often than not, we are in the £5-5.50 price range for an OK red. Some years ago I signed up the Laithwaite mail order company thinking to buy four cases a year for good weekend drinking. Now I find I am turning to them more frequently when they have offers. Today I ordered 15 bottles which, including shipment, avaraged out at £6.50 a bottle, and since I've drunk most these wines before, and anyway have never had a duff bottle from them,I am pretty sure they will be fine. (Also, I don't have to traipse round the damned supermarkets with screaming kids and their screaming mothers and with old women blocking the aisles with their trolleys while they have a gossip or using them to try to run me over or crush my toes).

I think Tesco offer that deal as well Colwyn - not sure if it's on at the moment or not.

I spotted one or two good NZ Marlboroughs on at a good prices last night. Less than £5 a bottle for a NZ Sav Blanc is pretty good.

The difference is that Tesco is generally more expensive anyway. For example, yesterday two of the bottles we bought were Isla Negra Merlot Reserva. This was £4.49 original price and with the offer reduced to £3.37. Tesco price for case of 6 is £9.49 per bottle.

Not so sure about that Colwyn. I think it's swings and roundabouts with beers and wines. I went into Morrisons on Thursday and checked their wine prices against what I normally buy from Tesco and they were generally more expensive. They currently have lager on offer of 3 for £20 but if you look at the bottle sizes they are all 275ml or less. I prefer to go for the 330ml deals at Tesco when they are on.

Factor into that an 8 mile round trip to M's and our 10% discount at Tesco and you can see why we shop locally  :)

If you can get a free delivery code for Tesco wines online it is helpful as their prices are often vastly cheaper than in store - for exactly the same wines. In store, well worth trying is Blaxland Estate Shiraz at £4.99 - half price apparently although I wouldn't be buying too many bottles of it at a tenner  ;)
