Catholicism, a force for good in the world.

I have many Catholic friends who are lovely people and I would not express any opinions against their religious beliefs.  but, I have to say I loved listening to Steven Fry, what a very good and convincing speaker he is. He is such a clever man and obviously feels very aggrieved at the stance the Catholic Church takes on gay men.   After saying this, I would also have liked to hear the other side of the debate to see what the Catholics said in their defense.  Wish I had been there on the night, but I have a feeling that he was the winner of the debate.

Saw this show several months ago and Stephen Fry really did hammer the final nail into the coffin.

I have always had the utmost respect for Stephen Fry's, humanity, intellect, and talent, this item just typifies these attributes, brilliant !, I'm not a political "being", but if he ran for PM, I for one would vote for him, the country would be a much better place !.

Mind you, you can't say that the catholic church isn't keeping up with the modern world.

one only hopes that the Pope will change his mind on things but I wouldn't hold out much hope as it seems to be stuck in the past. however if an attack by someone as skilled in the art of delivery as Fry was to attack or highlight failures in the islam faith he would have to hide.
The part of the speach concerning woman and their rights to have choice should be as fundemental and natural as breathing.
Not sure if his speach was fuelled by his being gay and the stand the church take on that. Most religions do have good people in who in the main try to make the world a better place for us all, but change is needed and not to fit around a lifestyle choices.

I would dearly love to hear what Jacqui Harvey thinks what possible 'defense' the Catholic Church, (or any other perverts), could invent for the systematic rape & defiling of young boys who have no way of stopping paedophilic priests for acting out their sadistic, twisted, p0rnographic, culture bred habits. I too have many Catholic friends, & may I add, many Gay friends as well, but do not have the Catholic Church's perverted dogma rammed down my ears by these friends. In closing, Ms. Harvey, if you really do believe that these low-life, sadistic, peurile ba***rds have ANY form of defense, then I would sincerely advise you to seek psychiatric help, or, better still, as someone very famous once wrote,'Get thee to a nunnery'. I read a book called 'The Light in the Window" by Jane Goulding which told the story of a Catholic home for unmarried mums in the not too distant past. It is very sad what happened to young women whose only "sin" was to fall for a baby. Jane was employed as a midwife in the home and writes about her time there.
I only hope that things have changed in modern times. As things are trust in the men working for the church has been lost, even those who  are genuinely good, kind and compassionate are now going to be viewed with suspicion.

Errrm Gordy, In case you did not realise it this was a debate, so two sides debate the subject.  I said I would like to have heard the other side of the debate.  I did not say I was defending the Catholic Church.    I am sure anyone would have liked to have seen how the Church and particularly Anne Widdicombe could explain what has been covered up in the Church for years.  Being overbearing, thinking your dogma is the only one that people should listen too as you usual are is a trait the Catholic Church have also been guilty of. ;)
