A fairly good topic heading to get everyone thinking.
Total rubbish, no thats a bit unfair, as we have to consider what the place is, why its there and who uses it.
Firstly it was purpose built as a holiday resort to draw visitors to the area, if this had not been done, then the options would probably have been to extend Olu Deniz, which due to the lack of growth area would have been of no real value, or make an area such as Calis into a much larger resort, now who would want that to happen.
It has some excellent restaurants, some good bars and some decent shops. The clientele who frequent the place are as mixed a bag as you could ever find, market forces have made it what it is today, and that market sadly are mainly the Brits.
Its most important reason as far as I am concerned is, if it were not there, twenty years ago my first visit to Turkey may have been to Marmaris instead, this would have meant two important things happening, firstly I would not have found the Fethiye area that I now love, and secondly I would never ever have came back to Turkey if Marmaris had been my first destination, now theres a place thats rubbish. (Is it OK to say that.....)
