Getting to Kargi museum
« on: June 22, 2011, 04:33:47 AM »
Some guests have heard about the Kargi museum and asked me how to get there? I have no idea! Is there a dolmus and if so, where from and how often? Does the man there do just breakfasts or lunch aswell?

Thanks

The Kargi dolmus will take you to within around 1/2 km of the museum. You get off when you see the Kargi sign with red lines through it & take the road to the RHS, which is opposite a small workshop. It's a fairly narrow windy road, but reasonably flat & interesting to look at the flora & fauna as you go. Quite a way along, the road forks & take the LH road, there is a small sign to the museum here, & that brings you to the entrance to the museum.

I'm not sure of the frequency of the dolmus, but from the number that pass along the Gunlukbasi road, I'd guess around 10 - 15 minutes.

During the winter, they were just doing a village soup at lunchtimes, there was a cauldron full made for us, served with huge quantities of bread. The only alcohol they had at that time was efes, for which there was an extra charge, whereas, water, chi & turkish coffee were all included in the price of the soup, which I think was 5tl.

I have to say it would be a heck of a hike ...especially in this heat...to walk up to the Kargi Museum.  Well worth it and the breakfasts are superb  but be prepared for a looooong walk.Museum very interesting and not at all as you would expect a museum to be.Have seen it many times and still go to look each time.Dont forget the baby donkey when you go . A couple of sugar lumps might be appreciated or a carrot.Definately worth going there and hope you enjoy your visit.

It took us around fifteen minutes to walk from where the dolmus dropped us in May but I'd allow for a bit more during the hotter months.  Well worth it though :)

Enver and his family run the Yoruk Museum and he will pick you up if he has times of your arrival to Ciftlik, I have no telephone number for him as we go by car, maybe someone else can help with details for you.
It is well worth a visit though.

Looks brilliant will have to give this a try. Is this the place I saw on a previous thread that does the best village breakfast?
