Although, if there's 2 of you, you can use a £20 note and it'll be accepted.  You won't get any change but you won't need any  :)

Because it was (as you stated) "many years ago"? I bought a Mars Bar for 10p, you can't buy them for 10p today because when I bought one for 10p, it was many years ago :D

So why do we have to pay the tenner then?  And do other nationalities have to pay the equivalent?  Im just curious.  It has always puzzled me.  You dont hve to pay it anywhere else.  I dont mind paying it at all, just would like to know.  Anyone know? :)

Depends on the country and what reciprocal agreement they have with the Turkish Goverment. Some pay the same for a tourist visa, some more,  some less, some nothing.

Before I got my residency I had to pay 20 US Dollars as I have an American passport.
