Thanks guys, I thought of Seahouses when I looked at the map, I remember it from the telly  :) No need to visit Sunderland Eric, I stayed there one night a week for about three years and know it fairly well. Fit (but drunk) young girls flashing their boobs at the police, that's what I associate with Sunderland mostly. Used to stay at the Roker Hotel, great cooked breakfast while looking out at the miserable grey sky, grey sea and rain  ;)

Coming down later today Steve, heading for the airport though.

thats what eric means Keith, go to stadium of light on a saturday, you,ll see loads of tits out playing. ;) :)

Even a hard bitten southerner like me can tell you that the area has much to offer, stunning countryside, and great city with alot to offer.

I'd recommend taking the train from Newcastle station to Hexham (and beyond) as it wends its following the Tyne through the countryside.  Worth a stop at Corbridge (a little walk to town from station) but worth it to cross the bridge over the Tyne.  If you like a beer there is an excellent pub right next to Wylam station, with 12 or so bitters available!! :)
