i apologise for all on the forum, but sorry, was so angry, aquaintences are planning to move back to England, they do have the money, but are going to leave their animals behind, yet another friend who has much less money, is going to wait until January so she can take her dog with her.  Suppose it depends how much your animals mean to you, plus I know some circumstances prohibit it, but I for one wouldn,t return to England without my 4 dogs, and I,m not wealthy

I think that may have explained your original post O/sarah, and more proficiently written. It's easy to fired up about something and sometimes hard to put into words.

I do agree with you to a point ovaciksarah however I have known quite a few folk who have had to go back suddenly (health, family whatever) and they tried to desperately re-home their pets before going on forums/contacting AA.
I have no intention to go back to the UK but I hope if I ever did have to, I will be able to take my pets with me.  However, sometimes life is just not that simple regardless of how much money a person may have.

If I ever had to return to the UK I wouldn't be able to take my dog as she is part pit bull, if god forbid this ever happened, I would have to rehome her and I only hope that I wouldn't be accused of dog dumping.

She is one of the most sweet natured dogs I know and everybody who meets her loves her, just a pity that these dogs have got such a bad reputation which boils down to the owners and not the dogs.

Why can't they fly direct from Turkey?  If you're doing all the quatantine bit they can so why, when you're following all the health procedures DEFRA ask for ae they saying this?
The thought of going via Greece would, IMO, be a nightmare.  Via Germany perhaps.

They may be able to fly back to Enland but would have to be put in quarantine for a number of months. Not all airlines will carry animals

Someone correct me if I am wrong.  But from beginning of 2012, you will be able to take pets back to UK using the pet passport scheme, and no quarantine needed.  I think a specialist company will be required.  Good news for those that can do this, though I imagine some might still have a challenge if they moved back to the UK as its too easy to end up with so many waifs and strays here, eh!

Yes Rindaloo as of January, as long as your pet has a chip, has had rabies and blood test, and had 90 days in Turkey after the blood test, they can then fly stright to UK.

I think you should get your facts right before you write anything, you will find that just taking your pet home with you does not come as easy as you think, by what I read it does not include certain countries, Turkey is not even mentioned on either list.

If you are in a EU country then fine you can take it back with you.

If you have exported an animal from the UK to certain non EU countries then you can take the pet back with you, but, if you got the animal in the country you are leaving which is outside the EU then the pet has to live in a EU country for six months before it can enter the UK.

Check out the Defra website.

I have just spoken to Defra telphone number 01228 403600 and can confirm that the proceedure for covering Turkey regarding pets (dogs, cats, ferrets:D)returning to the UK are 3 months blood test before they leave Turkey (ie if you are thinking about returning in Jan 2012 they need to be done now)this has to be taken anytime after 30 days of the rabbies jab, also a tape worm tablet has to be administered by a vet (ie in a EU country) and you must enter the UK after 12hrs but no longer than 24hrs, you can not fly directly to the UK from Turkey with your pet[?]:-\ but you can from Greece :)[?]all pets must be micro chipped, either here(Turkish pet) or if you exported a pet, from the UK he/she would have been chipped already :) if you follow this proceedure there is no quarentine required they do not need a pet passport, but require a veterinary health certificate issued in Turkey by your vet, hope this helps any one thinking about returning with pets after January 2012 8)

I used Greece as an example you can fly from any EU country, you can not fly direct from Turkey, the tate worm must be administered in an EU country, as previously posted, there may be a change in this proceedure before Jan 2012 as previous post explains. 8)
