Apology accepted :D - I can see what you mean actually (I think), the 'general' travel insurance FAQ appears on other pages too - perhaps giving the impression it is a FAQ for the product you are reading about.

I was responding primarily to Busybee who was clearly interested in Staysure as an option for Travel Insurance.

I do like to see multi faceted topics that go off at a tangent but the downside is that sometimes it is difficult for the older members to keep up :D

I have just spoken with a helpful young man called Phil at Staysure.
He confirmed as Firo said that Gill and I (60 & 50) with no pre-existing would be £300 per couple per month.
Remember as Keith said this is Private Medical Cover not Travel Insurance.

He also said that if you were flying in and out of Turkey and spending 6 months or more out of the UK in any one year then they would cover you as well - so it doesn't matter if you are making trips back to the UK.

He is happy to call anyone internationally and give you a quote if you click on the link (on this site) and put in your Turkish number (landline or mobile) - then he will be happy to call you.

Finally he said that the Aviva cover quoted was very very comprehensive and in most cases if existing conditions were "under control" then it is possible they will cover them (he used High Blood Pressure as an example) and in any event they would provide you with a quote and then check with the underwriters and come back to you to confirm precisely what was covered and what wasn't.

Ian is that £300 a year rather than a month?

Nope - I nearly fell over - so I asked him again and he said per month

Seems high in price to me as well.  Anyway you be careful with the falling over, it looks like it could get expensive if you were to damage yourself!!

Don't forget it's age related. My son recently took out a comprehensive package from AXA NZ (he's based in Thailand) and at his age (28) it was only £360 per year. As with most of these plans it will rise in cost as he gets older.

In this topic - {A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}43953 - member Lynda Yilmaz says Bag Kur is 600 TL a month for her and her Turkish husband - that's over £200 a month so am I missing something..?

I understand the point about age, but at this price in comparison to your son, the loading for Ian is still 25 times your son's package, which still looks very steep to me.  And when you compare it to travel insurance for a month, that includes extensive medical cover, you can get cover at age 60 for considerably less than £300 per month, which again makes this service look ridiculously expensive.

Many thanks Ian, Firo and Scunner for all this medical insurance research.  I think I will keep the money in a contingency fund, earning interest in the bank at that price. One of my neighbours has private medical insurance with Axa insurance out here. Will find out the cost of that and post details.
