transportation cage for a large dog

My friend plans to take a dog back to the Uk in January and is looking for a cage to transport him in. Does anyone have one for sale? Needs to be for a large dog, around 40 kilos.

If she is going back by air - it will need to meet the airline requirements for transportation too.   They have very specific requirements - it has to be a certain amount taller, longer and wider than the animal and has to have metal fixings. She can check with the cargo department at the airline she is flying with.

Yes, sure, but is there not certain sizes of these for varying kilos of animals? They are not made specifically for each animal.And I thought that possibly someone who had bought an animal out here would be able to sell the transport cage on and this would have metal catches etc fitted in any case.

You can't just put a dog in a crate based on how much it weighs. There are specific rules related to the length, height and width of a crate based on the measurements of the dog. Your friend needs to measure the dog and then contact the airline for details of the requirements before buying a crate.

Just for your info Lissa, up until a month ago the team from DEFRA told me that you can not fly direct from Turkey to the UK when the new rules come in January 2012, why I do not know, but I would check with them first, maybe it has changed in the last month, but get your friend to check.

We are coming out with our dog late November early December and he will be flying into Antalya.

I could ask the question what will happen to his crate once he lands?

If you give me the dogs measurements I will compare to oscar to see if there is a possibility to use.

I have a email somewhere on how to best measure the dog to be transported as soon as I have found it I could forward to you.

Hi Mark - I came into Dalaman with my cat on the same flight.  The crate was unloaded after the luggage and an airport person brought the cat to the luggage carousel - I had gone to the information office in Dalaman once i had my bags and they pointed behind me and there was my cat - I had to hand the paperwork to the man and he took me and the cat to see the customs official - they checked the paperwork and sents us on our way.  One of the things I did was pack a small bowl in my hand luggage - I bought a bottle of water on the flight and gave her a drink as soon as I could after we landed.   I had heard all sorts of horror stories about taxes for import - I had euros, lira and £s on me to cover all eventualities but was not asked for any money at any stage.   I hope you dog enjoys his/her new life in the sun.   :-)

i brought my labrador over from uk to dalaman and we got a customised box/crate. its wooden and has a water and food compartment inside.i need to measure it but if it fits your requirements no problem. e mail me and ill give you more details.

Thank you for the advice, It is our plan to do the same as you and have water ready for him and plenty of readies   just incase an official got out the wrong side of the bed that morning.
I'm glad the flight whent well with your cat, we are realy looking forward to our relocation but can't help but worry that he will be ok, but i'm sure he will. sorry for going off topic a bit.
