claiming for a work accident

There is very little context in this posting. However, if you have a clear reason to claim due to the workplace and you also feel that there will be ongoing problems with the injury you should go ahead. Otherwise you will always regret not having done so. One thing worth considering is that you have up to 3 years to make a claim after the event. At this stage you might want to just raise the point with your line manager that you feel that you incurred an injury at work and make note of when and where this took place (or email him/her with the details). You can use this as an auditable point in the future if you then decide to take it forward. In choosing a solicitor I would say go to one that is recommended and most likely to have your interests in mind rather than just choosing cases that they are guaranteed to win.

Any injury at work - including minor injuries - should be recorded in your employer's 'accident book'. All employers (except for very small companies) must keep an accident book. It's mainly for the benefit of employees, as it provides a useful record of what happened in case you need time off work or need to claim compensation later on.

Your employer has a duty to protect you and tell you about health and safety issues that affect you. They also have a legal obligation to report certain accidents and incidents and to pay you sick pay if you are entitled to it.

claiming for a work accident

Lynne no offence taken at all and I totally understand what you have said. I had no intention at all of claiming when it first happened basically 16 sheets of 8 foot long mdf fell on me,(dont know why I wanted to protect my employers by not saying, it happened and that is that)it knocked me to the floor and trapped my legs thank goodness there was a workmen working nearby as I could not get the wood of me due to the weight of the stuff, the workmen said to the matron he had a hard job lifting it off me on his own.
I probably wont be claiming but I am just a bit cross as not one member of management asked if I am ok, the person who stacked the wood has not asked me if I am ok and then I hear they are saying it is my fault as I should have stood to the side to count it and not in front, in my seven years of doing my job it has never happened when I have stacked the wood as I always stack it in such a way that it would fall backwards not forwards.Whilst I know it could have been a lot worse and I am very lucky I now feel a bit traumatised by the whole thing and am incredibly anxious now whilst at work.
